Watch: Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Suggests Trump Is Sending Federal Law Enforcement To Crime-Riddled Cities Because They Are Democrats

Opinion | I know this sounds unreasonable… but she actually said so.

The mayors of Chicago and Seattle lashed back at Trump’s announcement Wednesday that “hundreds” of federal officers will be sent to U.S. cities facing rising crime, arguing the federal government could offer more effective aid by tackling gun control.

In a press conference following the White House announcement, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot accused the president of diverting attention from his “failed leadership on Covid-19” and refusing to make “tough calls and be a real leader on things that could actually make our communities safe.”

“There are too many damn guns on our streets,” said Lightfoot, who accused Republicans of refusing to “even have a conversation” about common-sense reforms like universal background checks and closing the gun show loophole.
