Vice President Pence’s speech in Washington defending persecuted Christians.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association convened the first World Summit in Defense of Persecuted Christians in Washington D.C., May 10-13.

According to The Christian Post, Vice President Mike Pence: “Before 600 victims of persecution and advocates for the persecuted church at the Mayflower Hotel […] called President Trump a “champion” of religious freedom. Pence’s presence at the summit, he said, signifies the president’s “tangible commitment to reaffirm America’s role as a beacon of hope and light and liberty, to inspire the world“.

VP Pence continues: “The reality is across the wide world, the Christian faith is under siege. Throughout the world, no people of faith today face greater hostility or hatred than followers of Christ”.

The speech goes on with a list of expressions of the persecution: “Over 215 million Christians confront intimidation, imprisonment, forced conversion, abuse, assault or worse for holding the truths of the gospel”.

The persecution toward Christians is a reality in so many countries in the world and this Summit is meant to give a voice to the voiceless.

But comforting and helping the victims is not the only goal. It’s important to point out the oppressor. And so Vice President Pence does, saying: “And so too does the president know those who perpetrate these crimes. They are the embodiment of evil in our times, and he calls them by name – radical Islamic terrorists”.
