Turns Out CNN Had 100 Million Reasons to Admit It’s Fake News

At this point, it honestly isn’t beyond the realm of reason to think we might see CNN collapse by the time Trump’s out of office.

Already, they’ve had to fire two of their biggest on-air talents following public spats with the president.

Trump himself has repeatedly blasted CNN for false reporting, or “fake news,” and he isn’t about to let up any time soon.

Especially not after CNN was forced to retract a “bombshell” report on Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia.

And that at the same time one of CNN’s producers admitted on hidden camera that the network was lying about Trump for the sake of ratings.

Now, we’ve learned that the reason CNN was so ready to retract its Russia story wasn’t journalistic ethics. Oh no, if CNN had its way, that phony story would still be airing on repeat.

Turns out the network had a $100 million lawsuit hanging over its head.

From the New York Post:

The specter of a $100 million libel suit scared CNN into retracting a poorly reported story that slimed an ally of President Trump’s — and forcing out the staffers responsible for it, The Post has learned.

The cable network’s coverage of Trump transition team member Anthony Scaramucci came amid federal scrutiny of corporate parent Time Warner’s pending purchase by AT&T — and the widespread belief among media execs that CNN President Jeff Zucker can’t survive a merger.

CNN immediately caved after Scaramucci, a financier and frequent network guest, cried foul and threatened to take legal action, sources said Tuesday.

Sources also said the three journalists responsible for the retracted story — reporter Tom Frank, editor Eric Lichtblau and Lex Haris, who headed the CNN Investigates unit — were urged to resign.

Sorry, CNN. There are consequences for lying to the American people.
