President Donald Trump fires FBI Director Comey

By

This afternoon President Trump fired James Comey, FBI Director. According to the statement from the Press Secretary:

“Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office. President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

«The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,» said President Trump.

A search for a new permanent FBI Director will begin immediately.”

James Comey was nominated for a 10-year term as FBI Director during the second Barack Obama’s presidency in 2013.

White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on AC360: “This has nothing to do with Russia […] (This) has everything to do with whether the current FBI director has the President’s confidence and can faithfully execute his duties.”
