Trump is Furious, Threatens to Go All the Way

President Trump is just about fed up.

Turkey is a nation that supposed to be our ally, especially after begging for decades to become a member of NATO, an alliance for which America foots most of the bill.

So, for Turkey to continue to detain an American evangelical Christian pastor on trump-up charges is beyond unacceptable.

The Trump Administration has been working for the past week or so to secure the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson, originally from North Carolina. He was first jailed two years ago on charges of espionage and of aiding a US-based Turkish cleric blamed for a recent failed coup. If found guilty by a Turkish court, Brunson could face up to 20 years in prison.

Vice President Mike Pence insisted that “Brunson is an innocent man, there is no credible evidence against him.”

Trump lashed out on Twitter, threatening to “impose large sanctions on Turkey for their long-time detainment of Pastor Andrew Brunson. He is suffering greatly. This innocent man of faith should be released immediately!”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu fired back via Twitter that “no one dictates [to] Turkey. We will never tolerate threats from anybody. Rule of law is for everyone; no exception.”
