The Heartbreaking Moment When a US Air Force Sgt. Said Goodbye to His K9 Partner

Air Force sergeant Kyle Smith was paired with Bodza for four deployments, and wouldn’t do a mission without his trusted K9 partner.

When Smith retired in 2014, the first thing he did was adopt Bodza and take him home.

The two had become the best of friends, saving one another’s lives on several occasions.

And that’s why it was incredibly heart-wrenching for Smith to have to make the decision to euthanize Bodza after the K9 soldier became terminally ill.

Bodza’s final moments were captured on camera in what media described as the “unspoken bond between a human and is dog.” But it was more than that – it was the bond between soldiers.

“I hugged him and told him I loved him a lot. I’m going to miss you,” Smith told local media.

“He was just goofy. He liked running around and just being a dog,” he said, remembering Bodza. “I wouldn’t be able to do a mission I did with him or his previous handlers without him there.”
