The Heart-Breaking Reason Paul Anka Backed Out of Trump Inauguration

By

On Thursday, legendary Canadian-American singer and songwriter Paul Anka confirmed he would be singing his iconic “My Way” at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

A day later, Anka had to back out for a heart-breaking reason.

Speculation was that Anka had bowed to political pressure to boycott the Trump presidency. So many other celebrities have decided to do so.

But Anka stressed that Trump is a life-long friend, and that his performance at the inauguration anyway would have less to do with the man, and everything to do with respect for the office.

“If I had done it, I would hope there would be some understanding for my motivation for it and judge me accordingly,” Anka told TMZ.

Anka was going to perform “My Way” while Trump danced with wife Melania at the inaugural ball.

But he has been fighting for years to gain custody of his 11-year-old son, Ethan. And new court scheduling clashed with the inauguration, forcing Anka to back out.
