Super Bowl Shut Down Leaves NFL in Total Panic

It was a great game between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

But a great many Americans who normally would have watched the game only found out the result after the fact by checking recaps.

That’s because right across this great nation, Americans broke with beloved tradition and found other things to do on Super Bowl Sunday.

The NFL likely hoped that despite the massive blowback over players kneeling during the National Anthem during the regular season, most American football fans would still watch the Super Bowl.

In a great many cases, they were wrong.

In particular, American Legion and VFW posts across the country openly boycotted the Super Bowl, as did a great many bars, restaurants and sports clubs.

This is a big deal, because a lot of Americans get together at these venues to enjoy the game, which means that this year, millions decided to do something else.

From Breitbart:

In one case, the Oneota Veterans Club in New York raised a sign to announce their boycott reading, “In honor of our country, our flag, our veterans.”

Even a bowing alley decided to skip the league’s championship game, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette.

Ray Steadmon, owner of Coloma Lanes in Coloma in southwestern Michigan, said that even though he is a “huge football fan” he was going to sponsor a Stars and Stripes tournament instead of a Super Bowl party. In fact, it is the first time in 30 years he is not celebrating on Super Bowl Sunday.

“This year when I watch these guys sitting in protest during our national anthem, disrespecting my country, disrespecting my flag, in my opinion, it made me so angry,” Steadmon said explaining the reason for Super Bowl his boycott.

Take a guess what this is going to do to NFL advertising revenues.

If the league can’t even get die-hard American football fans to watch the Super Bowl, it’s only a matter of time before big-name advertisers start pulling their marketing dollars.
