Last week’s state elections in Virginia ended with the Democrats seizing control of all three branches of government for the first time since 1993.
Even so, Barack Obama, who now lives a stone’s throw from Virginia and has taken to meddling in the state’s politics, probably wasn’t in a celebratory mood.
That’s because nearly half of the 17 candidates for the local legislature that he personally endorsed ended up losing.
Proud to endorse an outstanding group of Virginia Democrats in Tuesday’s election—candidates who’ll not only advance the causes of equality, justice, and decency, but help ensure that the next decade of voting maps are drawn fairly. Just nine of the 17 candidates backed by Obama won, two out of six in the State Senate, and seven out of 11 in the House of Delegates.
That’s a pretty abysmal win rate considering the sweeping victories Democrats experienced in the districts where Obama didn’t get involved.
Turns out an endorsement by the former president might not be so desirable.
