Mass Resignation of Senior Officials at State Department… This is HUGE

By

Draining the swamp?

The senior staff of the US State Department just walked out. All of them.

And it happened shortly after Rex Tillerson was confirmed as the new secretary of state.

The Washington Post reports that this will make Tillerson’s job much more difficult.

State Department resigns en masse

The resignations included Patrick Kennedy, the agency’s undersecretary for management who had served in that position for almost a decade, and his top three deputies.

Those leaving with Kennedy include Assistant Secretary of State for Administration Joyce Anne Barr, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Michele Bond and Ambassador Gentry O. Smith, director of the Office of Foreign Missions.

These are folks who were career diplomats, not political appointees. They were responsible for diplomatic postings and workings around the globe.

Blessing in Disguise?

These resignations might initially make Tillerson’s job more difficult.

On the other hand, has anyone actually been pleased with the State Department’s performance over the past decade?

Maybe it’s time for fresh blood. After all, Tillerson is no career politician, and it will be good to get more people like him in the department.

Trump promised to drain the swamp. Looks like the swamp is starting to drain itself.
