JUST IN: One Killed, Seven Injured by Malfunctioning State Fair Ride

By

Say what you will, but I’ve never trusted those rides that are quickly put up and just as quickly taken down at state fairs across the country.

They just never seemed entirely safe.

And after what happened at the Ohio State Fair, it would seem I was right.

NBC4i has the tragic report:

The Columbus Division of Fire says one person is dead and five critically injured after a ride malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair.

The deceased is an 18-year-old man. None of the victims have been identified.

Battalion Chief Steve Martin said two people are in stable condition. One of those injured is a 13-year-old child. The others are adults. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center confirmed on Twitter that they had received 3 patients.

Martin says one of the rows of seats on the Fire Ball ride “snapped off.”

The really frightening thing is that, according to officials, this particular ride had been inspected several times, and had been approved as in good working order.

So, either someone isn’t doing their job properly, or these things are just not as safe as they’re made out to be.
