JUST IN: 8 Dead & 30+ Injured in Texas Human-Trafficking Ordeal

By

“All were victims of ruthless human smugglers indifferent to the well-being of their fragile cargo.”

“The South Texas heat is punishing this time of year. These people were helpless in the hands of their transporters. Imagine their suffering, trapped in a stifling trailer in 100-plus degree heat.”

U.S. Attorney Richard L. Durbin Jr. of the Western District of Texas further described what emergency workers found as “a horrific scene.”

This has got to end.  Innocent children among the 38 found in a brutally-hot semitrailer at a Walmart parking lot in San Antonio, Texas.

Alerted by someone in obvious stress approaching the Walmart asking for water, police arrived last night around midnight to discover this travesty.  Sadly, this is just one of many such incidents happening at or near our border with Mexico.  And in the summer this crime is unusually deadly.  Humans are packed like cargo into trucks and carried over the border to an even worse fate.

According to Fox News:

Thomas Homan, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director, said in a statement: “By any standard, the horrific crime uncovered last night ranks as a stark reminder of why human smuggling networks must be pursued, caught and punished.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations works year-round to identify, dismantle, and disrupt the transnational criminal networks that smuggle people into and throughout the United States. These networks have repeatedly shown a reckless disregard for those they smuggle, as last night’s case demonstrates,” Homan said in the statement.
