Israel’s Top Spy Had a Special Request When He Visited Trump

By

The head of Israel’s Mossad spy agency met with US President-elect Donald Trump in New York last week. And he brought a special request from Jerusalem.

Mossad Director Yossi Cohen’s visit with Trump was kept a secret until it actually happened.

Cohen briefed Trump and his staff on various issues facing the Middle East. For instance, they spoke about the Iran nuclear deal, the Syria civil war and Palestinian terrorism.

The Israeli officials also proposed a new regional peace summit to possibly be headed by Trump.

Block Obama

But the most important matter for Cohen and the Israelis was the damage President Barack Obama can still do.

Just before Obama leaves office on January 20, the UN Security Council will vote on recognizing a Palestinian state.

Israel fears Obama might try to take revenge on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by not vetoing the motion.

The US traditionally uses its Security Council veto to defeat anti-Israel resolutions.

But Obama and Netanyahu have had a very rocky relationship. And Israel believes Obama might try to stick it to Netanyahu one last time.

They are hoping Trump can prevent that by already pressuring the Obama Administration.
