Iraq Christians Find Hope in Trump, Say Obama Abandoned Them

By

It’s not only conservative Americans who are counting the days until Donald Trump takes Barack Obama’s place as president of the US.

“Obama never helped the Christians. In fact, he despises them,” said a Christian leader in war-torn Iraq.

A Catholic priest in Iraq took to Facebook to tell of his community’s suffering in recent years.

“The rule of ISIS has been a travesty and a consequence of the neglect shown to our people and this region,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that policymakers and those in charge didn’t bother to save us from ISIS.”

And chief among those guilty powers was the US under Obama’s leadership.

“The US government led by President Obama could have protected us, or at least helped us to protect ourselves,” the priest continued. “But Obama abandoned us…”

Utter Devastation

A local Christian woman pointed to the utter devastation of their neighborhoods in the liberated city of Mosul.

It’s hard to imagine these people could have any hope.

A New Hope

But they have found hope in Trump’s victory.

“We hope this new guy called Trump will help us more than Obama did,” said a young Christian girl.

Hateful Obama

Others on the video blasted Obama for his pathetic approach to ISIS and other Middle East threats. They see Obama as overtly hateful toward Christians.

“Obama never helped the Christians. In fact, he despises them,” said that same Christian leader cited above. “But we have hope in the new president, Trump.”

The Catholic priest also spoke of his hopes for the Trump presidency.

“It’s very likely that…Trump…will establish new policies,” said the priest. “We really hope that this [US] election will be a turning point for Iraq and for the Christians, in particular.”
