Here’s How Many Other US Presidents Have Been Impeached

President Trump was impeached on Wednesday.

It was no surprise, really. Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi had made this their sole mission for years, to the detriment of the American people thanks to Congress doing little more than attack the president.

But we digress.

Now that it’s official, Trump is only the third US president to ever be impeached by the House of Representatives.

Who are the others?

Well, many will remember that none other than Democratic hero Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998 for perjury and obstruction of justice.

But hypocritical Democrats seem to be conveniently forgetting that at present.

The other was Andrew Johnson, who was impeached on 11 High Crimes and Misdemeanors. In short, Johnson made some appointments and fired some folks, and in so doing upset Congress. It was a time in which the balance of power between the executive and the legislature was still being hashed out.

But a couple important points to take away from all this are:

  1. Trump is the first Republican to be impeached. Both Clinton and Johnson were Democrats.
  2. No president has ever actually been removed from office by impeachment, which is only the first step. Removal from office requires the Senate to then convict the president on the charges presented. This has never happened, and is highly unlikely in Trump’s case, too.
