Germany Declares War on the Burka; Too Little, Too Late?

By

German Chancellor Angela Merkel this week called for a ban on the burka, the fully-veiled garb worn by devout Muslim women.

“A full veil is inappropriate in our country,” Merkel told a gathering of her conservative CDU party.

“In interpersonal communication, which plays a fundamental role here, we show our face,” said the German leader.

She continued: “The burka should be banned wherever legally possible. It does not belong in our country.”

Her fellow party members responded with thundering applause.

Too little, too late?

The move signals that Germany is unhappy with the lack of integration by Muslim immigrants.

But banning the burka at this late stage is just a bandage over a gaping wound.

Earlier this week, a German judge ruled that Muslims enforcing Sharia Law was an exercise in “free speech.”

Encouraged by the ruling, the Muslims established a “Sharia-controlled zone.”

Muslims across Germany are ignoring the legal court system and settling disputes in Sharia Courts that have sprung up all over the European country.

Integration would seem to be far from becoming a reality.
