END OF THE ROAD? Trump Has Harsh Words for China

It looked as though President Trump might actually succeed in bringing the US and China closer together.

But recent developments indicate that Beijing is stringing Trump along, and that’s not something you want to do with this president.

During a speech in Singapore on Saturday, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis slammed China for militarizing a small group of South China Sea islands for the purpose of intimidating American allies in the region.

“Despite China’s claims to the contrary, the placement of these weapons systems is tied directly to military use for the purposes of intimidation and coercion,” Mattis reportedly told the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security conference.

Immediately after, Trump tweeted:

“Very surprised that China would be doing this?”

Either Trump knew all along that this would be the outcome, but wanted to first expose the true nature of the Chinese regime, or he really hoped for warmer relations with China, only to be stabbed in the back.

Either way, things are about to get a little less comfortable for Beijing.
