Dems Declare Victory as Trump Does About-Face on Illegal Aliens. Conservatives Outraged

They warned us that Donald Trump could be unpredictable. It’s a quality that’s served him well in business, but could end up costing him dearly in politics.

The American people want a president who keeps his promises, especially the difficult ones.

Trump’s proved that he’s not afraid to go against the grain to keep his word.

But he’s also making some moves that have conservative voters confused, and even feeling betrayed when it comes to tackling the problem of illegal immigration and its lasting effect on America.

The Hill reports:

President Trump stunned his conservative supporters on Thursday by asserting his willingness to strike a deal with Democrats to protect young immigrants living illegally in the U.S.

Speaking to reporters in Washington and Florida, Trump backed a broad outline of a plan Democratic leaders said they agreed to during a Wednesday dinner at the White House. The trade-off would include new border security measures.

“We’re working on a plan for DACA,” the president said at the White House, referring to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program which shields certain young people from deportation and allows them to work.

Trump terminated the program last week. Benefits are set to begin expiring in March, setting off a scramble in Congress to find a solution for the thousands of immigrants who are enrolled.

He declared the two sides are “fairly close” to reaching a deal, saying the plan must include “massive border security” but that “the wall will come later.”

Conservatives that until now have stood firmly with Trump immediately let him know what they thought, and even trotted out a derogatory new nickname for the president.

Again, from The Hill:

President Trump’s supporters are apoplectic and lashing out at “Amnesty Don” for pursuing a deal with Democratic leaders to protect young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

The reaction from the right has been swift and merciless. Trump has backtracked on his campaign pledges before, but conservative immigration hawks like Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) warned that this deal with Democrats would do lasting damage.
