Coronavirus. One Death every 16 minutes in Madrid’s hospitals

By

The Coronavirus pandemic is reaching absolutely worrying proportions across Europe.

Spain is among the most affected nations (only in Italy there are more contagions): the spread of the virus continues with a progression of 25% of cases per day and is concentrated mainly in Madrid: one death every 16 minutes in the hospitals of the capital, where there are more than 3,000 hospitalized and where the two crematoria are working 24 hours a day.

The data are reported on the website of the newspaper El Pais which explains how the stat does not include people who died at home or in other social-health structures.

According to experts, it is impossible to quantify the real extent of the infection. In the Spanish capital, the number of people infected would be tens of thousands.

Among the younger victims is Pedro Alameda, a 37-year-old agent from the Guardia Civil. The man, according to reports from the Spanish press, died after testing positive for the new virus, despite not having any previous pathology.

King of Spain Felipe VI launched an appeal to the country – the second during his reign – explaining that the diagnosed infections were 13,801, the deaths already 598, and asking for unity. “It is a crisis that we are fighting and that we are about to overcome and win. This virus will not defeat us, it is a parenthesis in our lives. We will return to normal”.
