By

It has been reported that three police officers have been shot in a rural section of Atlanta, Georgia. It has also been reported by “People” that the alleged gunman is deceased. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated that the officers who were shot were from two different police departments. One Locust Grove police officer and two Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were wounded and taken to close-by hospitals. The officer from Locust Grove was pronounced dead.

The police officers made their way to the suspect’s home with an arrest warrant in hand after he failed to appear in court. There was a press conference today during which authorities explained that one of the Henry County deputies is in fair condition. He was hit with a bullet in his vest. The other Henry County deputy was shot roughly two inches below his vest and is in serious condition.

The gunman was reportedly shot and killed during the encounter. Authorities have not identified him to the public as they have not yet notified the family.

A reporter with WBS-TV, Tyisha Fernandes, reported that police have blocked off the area where the shooting took place. They have stated that they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

People.com reported:

Three ambulances, followed by police escorts, took the victims to the Atlanta Medical Center. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, dozens of police officers are at the hospital.

The shooting of the three police officers has sparked a response from nearby police agencies. The Gwinnett County Police Department explained in a Twitter post, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Henry Co Sheriff’s deputies and Locust Grove officer who were shot this morning in Henry County. We hope they survive their injuries and make a full recovery.”
