Boom: He’s Calling For New Sanctions

By

The days of letting America’s enemies walk all over us are over.

Especially when we’re talking about nations that pretend to be our friends, but then treat Americans like criminals.

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) is calling on the Trump Administration to impose fresh sanctions on the Turkish government over its jailing of American citizens.

At least two American citizens are currently languishing in Turkish prisons, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has openly admitted they were jailed on trumped-up charges in order to blackmail the United States.

Lankford wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed:

“The administration should…consider advising U.S. business owners to consider the safety of their employees before expanding operations into Turkey. And most important, it should impose sanctions against Turkish officials involved in the prolonged and wrongful imprisonment of Americans.

“The White House has the tools necessary to institute a range of targeted sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Act, but Congress is more than willing to provide additional incentives if needed.

“There are many nations around the world where such behavior is commonplace, such as Cuba and Iran. But the recent level of thuggishness is unprecedented for an ally in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.”
